journaling reads: as we walk through the beautiful shinjuku gyoen, we beam with pleasure at doing nothing, absolutely nothing for a good two hours. we laugh at the quaint names of fair roses. a wary cat catches your eye and you happily take its picture. it was december and the trees had lost their leaves. i recall wishing we had been here to see the russet leaves of fall but now know we could not have come at a better time. a gentle breeze lifts my cares away with the precious last leaves of the trees. the sadness which stems from the sight of cold, bare trees makes way for delight as i picture the cherry blossoms in spring. the luscious garden is but a small oasis in busy tokyo - a tiny city in our fascinating universe. on the other side of the world, the leaves are still green. and the grass always is, back where i am from.
